Community Support

Being active in the community, whether local or global, is hugely important to me, not only as the owner of That Aussie Handmade Place but also as a mother and now as a Nana.

Throughout my business career, I've thoroughly loved running and participating in events or fundraising to benefit a children's charity.

Children have always be a focus for me and my business career has revolved around children for a very long time.  Children are, arguably, the most vulnerable and dependent, people in society.  They are wholly dependent upon the significant adults around them doing the right thing, providing food, shelter and love.

When that breaks down, the results are far reaching and tragic. It's a confronting issue but despite the harrowing experiences that some children experience, they are remarkably resilient little beings.

Given timely and appropriate support, they have a great capacity to heal, develop and grow despite sometimes violent and painful histories.

I marvel at the resilience of children.  They could certainly teach some adults a thing or two about bouncing back and giving love, unconditionally.

Making a choice of who to support

My understanding of the needs of neglected children began, way back in 1995, when I lived in Scotland.   I was an active member of The Scottish Children's Panel, a government agency who make decisions on the welfare of children (aged from birth to 18 years), who were reported as suffering or potentially suffering harm, whether through their own actions or through the actions of others.

Issues could range from truancy, to a child being involved in a serious criminal offence, from running away from home to a child suffering emotionally and physically as a result of parental neglect.

And so my journey of supporting child based charities began and continued for many years.

We've chosen to support an amazing organisation.  I'm proud to support Act for Kids.

There's a million and one ways we can support Act for Kids and all it takes is a little effort, a bit of kindness and a whole lot of commitment and I know plenty of you fit that bill!

Our Facebook page is where we'll post regular updates about our fundraising endeavours and adventures, so if you'd like to stay in the loop, join, follow or like the Bubs & Bobbins Facebook page and I'll see you there!

I'm incredibly grateful for the beautiful little bubs in my life and it feels perfectly in balance that Act for Kids be the focus of our fundraising efforts.

All that remains for me to say is... if there's anything at all you'd like to contribute by way of service or financial donations, Act for Kids will certainly put your support to good use.=
